1.  Non-traditional Delivery

Most of the daytime computer courses in this program will be delivered in a non-traditional, accelerated format.  Most morning classes meet for 8 weeks. Most afternoon and evening classes are in the traditional 16-week format.  Be sure to check the current semester class schedule for 8 week classes, 8W1 denotes First 8 Weeks and 8W2 denotes Second 8 Weeks.

 2.  Prerequisites
It is important that students follow the curriculum guide for proper sequencing and meeting of prerequisites.  Students with previous computer experience may take CSCI101 and NETW150 concurrently.    

A student with previous training or experience in Microsoft Office applications may take a placement test for CSCI101 in the HCC Testing Center.  Successful score on this test would allow waiving CSCI101 Introduction to Computer & Information Science.

3. General Education Courses
It is important that students initiate their math sequence as early as possible in their program. Concurrent enrollment in CSCI101 and MATH109 is recommended.  In order to fulfill the 4 credits of Math for this program, a student should take a 4 credit hour College Level Math.  MATH109 or higher is required.  
 
4. Specializations

The Heartland 30 credit hour Certificate in Computer Network Technology - Network Administrator Emphasis is offered in three Specialization options:  Cisco, Microsoft, and Novell.  All of the courses in the Certificate count toward the Associate in Applied Science (65 semester hours) in Computer Networking Technology.       

5. Industry Certification Exams
Industry certification provides an employer with assurance that a person has e minimum set of skills in a subject.  There is an additional fee for all industry certification exams.
