Information Technology

General Information
The Associate in Applied Science Degree in Information Technology prepares the student for a variety of entry-level positions. Examples include: applications programmer, business programmer, user support/help desk technician, and computer operator. Students receive two semesters of hands-on programming experience in a high-level programming language, such as Java, and have the choice of selecting a second language from the programming language electives group.

The Program
The Information Technology program at Heartland Community College requires 61-62 credit hours and will prepare students:

  • with broad computer skills (through the core requirements)
  • with in-depth expertise in a technical specialization (specializations will be individually developed to meet student and employer needs)
  • to seek a four-year degree

Career Opportunities
Upon completion of the program, students will be able to seek employment with wholesale and retail businesses, banking and insurance firms, government agencies, electronics and other manufacturers, transportation and public utilities, research organizations, colleges and public school systems.
